This stoneware jug was made in Tonala, Mexico and was probably originally purchased as a tourist souvenir. It is marked "KE Mexico" with a stick drawing that looks like a stork. According to my research, the KE is for Ken Edwards, a well-known artist in Tonala. Apparently, each of the artists who worked for his pottery used their own animal mark to signify that they hand painted the piece. The design has a bird (which looks like a quail but may be a roadrunner), butterflies, and leaves and it was most likely produced in the 1970s. It is approximately 8" tall. There are a few small chips to the glaze on the bottom, but they are not very noticible (chips are quite common to redware pottery such as this).
