Yellow Speckled Daileyware Melamine Plates Set of 2 Newark New York

These dinner plates are marked "An exclusive design Daileyware by Home Decorators Inc, Newark New York". They are yellow speckled melamine, and were obviously well-used, as they have scratches which appear to be from knives cutting into items on the plates. From what I understand, these surface scratches can be buffed out using a plastic polish. Melamine became very popular for tableware in the 1950s - 1960s, and it was thought that this new plastic would replace the standard stoneware/porcelain/china in most homes. Melamine became less popular in the 1960s due to its tendency to stain and scratch, and became mostly obsolete with the advent of microwave ovens - it heats from the inside out and will crack in the microwave.
