Meito Japan Mountain Lake River Scene Creamer Gilded Handle Blue Rim 1960s
This cute creamer features a mountain lake scene with trees in the foreground, a blue band around the rim, and gilding on the handle. It is marked "Meito China Hand Painted Made in Japan", and it most likely was produced sometime between the 1940s - 1960s. It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, and some paint loss to the gilding on the handle.
Meito China became popular around the same time as Noritake. Many people think of Noritake as being higher quality, and they are definitely more well-known due to the volume of items they produced. I recently saw this reference to Meito China: "Meito designers favored a greater use of a few bold, primary colors, a sparer use of line and detail, and larger amounts of undecorated space - all major characteristics of the art deco style. Meito - it's Noritake's bolder sister"
